The power of social networking is at it again, apparent this time in the reunion of a Vietnam veteran and a soldier that he rescued. After rescuing Wendell Skinner from a helicopter crash that he was nearly abandoned at, Earl Carlson went on to prepare for the Tet Offensive, not knowing the fate of Skinner. With the power of Facebook, Carlson found Skinner almost 42 years later.
Social media FTW.

Check out this story reporting about the partnership between Disney and Asus:
The Disney Netpal: A Laptop Specially Designed for Kids
Apparently, Asus is going to produce a netbook specifically made to withstand most of the abuse that comes with allowing a kid to play on a laptop. Heavy-duty parental controls are included. From the Disney press release:
The Disney Netpal also allows parents to create a web-safe computing environment with 40 parental control options. Parents can pre-select email correspondence options, browsers, the websites their kids visit and the programs they use. These permissions can also be scheduled on a calendar, providing parents with a convenient, automated means of granting access on the days and times that they choose. Parents can also pull up data to determine where children spent time, and for how long. Additional websites can be added for access, but only if the parent approves and submits the request within the password-protected system.
Runs Windows XP Home, has a 16GB SSD (exclusive Toys-R-Us model) or 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM, 802.11 b/g/n, all powered by an Intel ATOM N270 (1.6 GHz).
I would love to get my hands on one of these for a test.

In an unfortunate turn of events, my beloved 12mbps Internet connection was suspended last night because I forgot to pay the bill. That has never, ever happened. While waiting in line at the cable store, I see that Michael Jackson is being admitted to the hospital. I give it about two seconds of brain space.
As I’m putting together this corporate/catch-all blog for the Dad Blogs collective, Twitter tells me that Michael Jackson has died from cardiac arrest.
First thought in my mind: what the…? Second thought: I’m not a huge fan of him these days, but it’s still a shame. Third thought (after trolling Twitter): did people really know who he was?
I guess this is the Elvis moment of my generation.
